"QUILTING
RETREATS"
Travel and Quilt at these dream Locations:

3. Idyllic Country Retreat in Australia
Quilting
in Paradise
Here’s
news of a wonderful quilting retreat-cum-holiday in Fiji.
Daku
Resort, Fiji
It offers
a bit of everything that quilters "dream" about:
- it’s
a week-long retreat with an "experienced" teacher
and daily workshops
- it’s
a chance to be on holiday with a bunch of other
quilters, chatting and enjoying "show and tell" sessions
- it’s
in Fiji – a lovely place to stich
into your "dreams"
- its affordable - $2980 for everything – travel by air from Australia’s
east coast or the north island of New Zealand, accommodation, food and the course itself (From US/Europe/Asia, we suggest you arrange your own air travel to Nadi. The cost of the course (from Nadi) is F$2250
.)
The class is
taught by Caroline Pyne who taught in California for
many years, and is now based in Auckland. Her course focuses
on hand
appliqué and
"South Pacific" designs. She promises that by the end of the week everyone
will have had the opportunity to create a 20” appliquéd
square that can be used as a quilt centre or pillow, and a 20” Hawaiian/Tahitian
appliqué that can be used as a table topper or cushion.
The holiday also
includes a mixture of organised trips around
the local area, plus "free
time" to go snorkelling on the reef or just sit round
the pool and read. It all takes place at a lovely little resort
in Savusavu
in Fiji – Daku Resort, known for its "friendliness
and relaxed" approach. Have a look at it on www.dakuresort.com, and
click through
to the paradise holiday courses 2007. As you’ll see, they have
a lot of experience in running this sort of holiday course for small
groups of people with a specialist passion.
